Locals gang up against Champua MLA

Joda: Alleging monopoly by Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud in the mining trade, villagers of Unchabali in Joda mining are of Keonjhar have started ganging up against him. Scores of villagers led by youth leader Sanjay Barik held a meeting Wednesday, opposing Mahakud’s activities.

They accused the MLA of reneging on his promises made to villagers.

The villager said, over last 12 years, Mahakud had taken Rs 1000 from 600 people and formed a development committee. A mining company has paid lakhs of rupees to the committee for development of roads, healthcare facility, school bus service, drinking water, electricity supply, but nothing has been done so far.

Besides, Mahakud floated a transport firm Maa Transport Agency and promised villagers to be its partners, but supporters of the MLA carried out mineral transport work for 12 years and did not give accounts of income and expenditure.

Aside from that, the MLA has formed Chaturbhuj Development Committee and taken away lakhs of rupees from 42 people on the promise of giving them mineral transportation work.

At the meeting the villagers decided that the MLA will be asked to sort out the issue in next four days, or else they will stage sit-in at his transport company.
