Chandbali: Hundreds of people staged protests at the Dhamra marine police limits Friday over alleged torture by an influential person on some Dalit people.
The alleged torture and attack on Dalit people had taken place at Jagula under Dhamra marine police limits in Bhadrak.
A video showing a leader attacking a Dalit youth went viral a few days ago. The accused person had also done a similar act in the past.
Two complaints had been filed against him at the police station, but police have not yet arrested the accused, said the agitating people.
Hundreds of Dalit people under the banner of Jatiya Dalit Sangh launched a dharna near the marine police station. They have apprised the superintendent of police and other officials about the incident. They demanded stern action against the accused without delaying the investigation.
As the agitation continued for five hours, SDPO Umashankar Mishra rushed to the police station and held talks with the protesters.
The SDPO assured the agitating people that the accused would be arrested after the ASP holds an investigation into the incident. The agitators relented after the assurance.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the accused has moved the High Court for securing anticipatory bail in this case.
