Locals seething over commuting woes

Bhadrak: Ahead of panchayat elections, people of various areas have raised issues related to their locality in various parts of Bhadrak district. People of Mahapokhari village under Bhandaripokhari block have warned of boycotting elections over bad shape of the road, a report said.

Locals alleged that they had been suffering from commuting woes. The village road has not been repaired for a long time, even though they apprised the district and the block administration for the urgent repair.

“We have been running from panchayat office to block and the district administration appealing for reconstruction of the 1-km-long road, but nobody is paying heed to it. Hence, we oppose the official apathy to our plight and have decided to boycott panchayat elections,” some villagers said.

In the monsoon, the road gets muddy. The difficulties of the villages get compounded for four months. An ambulance and fire tenders fail to get access to the village at the time of emergency, they said.

“When our plight is not addressed by the administration and local people, what is the use of taking part in voting. We have again drawn attention of the district administration for renovation of the road. If our demand is not met well before the elections, we will refrain from participating in elections,” they lamented.
