Puri: A group of locals here are all set to offer a huge earthen lamp to Lord Loknath on the occasion of Mahashivratri March 4.
Claiming the earthen lamp to be the largest in the world, the locals have contacted the authorities of Guinness Book of World Records.
According to sources, some locals used to offer large earthen lamps at the Loknath temple on the occasion of Shivratri. A group of artisans in Bidanasi area of Cuttack usually mould the 6X6 ft lamp with utmost care. The lamp, weighing around 500 kg, can contain around four quintals of ghee, sources said.
“Recently, we came to know that an earthen lamp offered to Goddess Laxmi at Mohanlalpur under Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh in 2016 was considered the largest of its kind in the world. The lamp, weighing around 150 kg, can contain around 100 litre ghee. But, our lamp is much bigger than that,” said a local, adding, they have contacted the authorities of Guinness Book of World Records to do the needful to place the lamp in the record book.
