Lockdown curbs may be eased if TPR dips

Bhubaneswar: Director of state Health department Bijay Mohapatra Saturday said that the lockdown restrictions could be eased in the days to come gradually if the test positivity rate (TPR) continues to decline.

The official said that currently the state is having around 10 per cent positivity rate of Covid-19 cases and if the trend continues, more relaxations could be allowed.

The government had earlier eased the lockdown norms in five districts where the positivity rate was below 5 per cent. While testing has been increased, positivity rates are declining which is a good sign, the government claimed.

Mohapatra also said that the process of global bidding for vaccines is on and the technical feasibility of the process would be examined after the last date of the tender is over.

He also said that other tenders like for the procurement of alternative drugs for black fungus would also be considered in the next few days.

These tenders are done online and these would be opened on the date of bidding. Till now, two players are said to have evinced their interest for the global tender.

The government would come out with more information on the players and quantum of the vaccines to be procured after conduct of a scrutiny and other processes for the bidding.
