Barang, August 23: The only Caiman crocodile living in the Nandankanan Zoological Park, which is of a near-extinct specis, died at the park hospital along with another nilgai (blue bull) Sunday.
The Caiman crocodile was seriously injured in a fight with a Siamese crocodile when the latter entered the former’s enclosure Friday night. The tail of the Caiman crocodile was badly injured in the fight. Doctors tried to save the injured crocodile, but failed. With the death of the lone Caiman crocodile, the number of crocodiles of this species became nil in the park.
Another nilgai was found dead in its enclosure the same day, thus bringing the total population of nilgais in the park to 13.
