Barang: With the death of the female Nilgiri langur at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here Monday, the primate species at the city zoo has come to an end, a zoo official said.
According to sources, the female langur had been ailing for a few days now. “The zoo authorities landed in a fix ever since the primate lost its appetite September 20. Desperate efforts of the zoo veterinarians did not yield any result. Without further delay, the primate had to be shifted to the zoo veterinary facility from Enclosure-68, Sunday. However, it breathed its last Monday afternoon,” a zoo keeper said.
NZP had received a pair of Nilgiri langurs from Chennai September 26, 2017. The male langur, however, died May 31, leaving the female in the lurch.
