Jhumpura: The lone tubewell in ward number 7 under Khendara gram panchayat in Jhumpura block of Keonjhar district dispenses contaminated water. It has become a grave cause of concern among the residents of the hamlet here.
If contamination was not enough, worms and leeches could also be seen in the water pumped out from the tubewell. Locals said the waste materials being dumped near the tubewell, and a cracked casing inside the tubewell are to blame for the contamination.
The villagers have approached the panchayat office and rural water supply and sanitation (RWSS) department over this issue. That said, no action has been taken.
When asked, Khendara sarpanch Darshan Munda said, “We have contacted the RWSS department over the issue. Corrective measures will be taken soon.” RWSS engineer Mohan Singh also echoed the same line and assured to repair the tubewell casing soon.
