Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22 which will move initially northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal, May 24, IMD said.
It said Friday’s trough runs from south Chhattisgarh to the Comorin area and now runs from south Chhattisgarh to South Interior Karnataka across Telangana & Rayalaseema at 3.1 KM above mean sea level.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower will likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha and one or two places over the districts of North Odisha in the next 24 hours.
The IMD bulletin further said the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in subsequent four to five days at many places over the districts of Odisha.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall has occurred at a few places over the districts of South Interior Odisha, at one or two places over South Coastal Odisha & North Interior Odisha. At the same time, dry weather prevailed over the rest districts of Odisha.
Maximum temperatures observed marked fall at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, appreciable fall at a few places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, and at one or two places over the districts of South Interior Odisha.
There will be no large change elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly below normal at a few places over the districts of Interior Odisha.
The highest maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees Celsius was recorded at Chandbali and the lowest minimum temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at Nuapada in the plains of Odisha.
The MeT office predicted that thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Bolangir.
Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada.
The Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara.
However, hot & humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Cuttack, the IMD report said.
