Titlagarh/Kesinga: A low intensity earthquake Saturday hit Titlagarh town in Bolangir district and Kesinga in Kalahandi at about 12.10 pm. The tremor although mild and lasted for a few seconds only, it sent shivers down in people’s spine, a report here said.
While some people in Titilagarh felt the vibration on the ground under their feet, a few heard some unusual noise. Residents who were inside their houses first thought it to be due to thunderbolt noise ahead of monsoon. In some areas, people came out of their houses out of fear, it was learnt.
The tremor was felt in rural pockets of the district also. As the intensity of the quake was very low, many didn’t realize it and no loss of life and properties were reported.
On the other hand, people in Kesinga were in a state of panic due to the deafening noise heard at about 12 noon. It continued for a few seconds in Dangarapada, Luthurbandh and Bashad areas. There was no report of loss of properties in the town.
When contacted, Kesinga additional tehsildar said he was at a sand ghat to check sand smuggling and couldn’t feel the quake.
