Cuttack: This year the Silver City will observe the Ganesh Puja in a simple manner, said Cuttack Mahanagar Shanti Committee Friday.

As per the decision taken by the Committee, the Puja panels in the city won’t opt for big tableau to celebrate the Ganesh Puja. The Puja committees have been asked to worship the clay idols of Lord Ganesh at their permanent pandals. They cannot erect temporary pandals on public places to observe Ganesh Puja.

Moreover, the Puja committees have been told to immerse the idols in nearby local bodies. The Mahanagar Shanti Committee has also imposed restrictions on grand processions during the immersion of idols. In a related development, the Shanti Committee has also issued a guideline for Durga Puja panels in the city to collect holy soil for shaping of idols. “Only five persons from each Durga Puja committee in the city can collect the holy soil on the occasion of Janmashtami. We will take decisions on the organisation of this year’s Durga, Kali and Kartikeswar Puja by considering the Covid-19 pandemic situation in a later stage,” said an office-bearer of the Shanti Committee.

The Shanti Committee, meanwhile, urged Durga Puja panels in the city not to book any orchestra or cultural troupe in advance for this year’s Dussehra celebration.

“The Covid-19 positive cases in the city are rising day-by-day. We have asked clubs and Puja committees to organise Ganesh Puja in a simple way. They have been asked to follow social distancing and other precautionary measures strictly during the festivals,” said the Shanti Committee office bearer.
