Southwest monsoon likely to advance into Odisha amid favourable conditions

Bhubaneswar:  A low pressure area likely to form over Bay of Bengal over the next 48 hours might revive monsoon in the state, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has said.

According to the afternoon bulletin of the centre, “A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal and extends 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Coastal Odisha and neighbourhood during next 48 hours.”

Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurdha, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Ganjam over next 24 hours.

The bulletin further informed that thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Khurdha, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Kandhamal districts.

Light to moderate rain or thunder-showers are very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha during the same time-frame.
