New Delhi: The officers and technical experts from Odisha and Chhattisgarh will meet in Delhi February 25 to find out an interim solution over the sharing of Mahanadi River water between the two states during non-monsoon months.
The meeting has been scheduled following the direction of Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal which had asked both the states to resolve the interim application amicably.
According to sources, the discussion will be held on the river- water sharing during the non-monsoon months. Odisha has been seeking release of 1.74 million acre feet (MAF) water in the non-monsoon months. The state government officials would continue pressing for their demand of release of 1.74 MAF water until the tribunal gives its final verdict in Mahanadi water dispute.
A three-judge bench comprising tribunal Chairperson AM Khanwilkar, Justice Ravi Ranjan and Justice Indermeet Kaur February 9 concluded the hearing in the interim application filed by Odisha seeking stay on the operation of barrages in Chhattisgarh and for ensuring minimum flow of 1.74 MAF during non-monsoon months, from November to May.
The bench had directed that the officers and technical experts from both the states will discuss to resolve the issue. “If parties are not ready for amicable solution, then the tribunal will pronounce the judgment,” the bench observed.
