New Delhi: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Bhartruhari Mahtab Monday urged the Centre to consider setting up of an Integrated Coach Factory for aluminium-bodied trains in Odisha.
While speaking in the Lower House, the BJD MP said the state government is keen to set up the integrated coach factory for aluminium-bodied trains in Odisha as the state is the largest producer of aluminium.
“The government has decided to roll out high speed aluminium-bodied ‘Train 20’ train sets by 2020. The state government is keen to set up the Integrated Coach Factory for these trains as the state is the largest producer of aluminium and it houses about 56 per cent of the smelting capacity of the country,” Mahtab said.
He further said that the state government is developing a dedicated Aluminium Park, where molten aluminium can be directly obtained from the smelter of Nalco for the manufacturing of train sets.
“The production costs for the coaches could come down substantially ,” he said.
Mahtab alleged that the Centre has ‘restrained’ the Standing Committee on Finance chairman from sharing with the panel members three reports on black money. During the debate on the interim Budget 2019-20 in Lok Sabha, Mahtab said the Finance Ministry has also refused to make them public under RTI citing breach of privilege of the House.
