Mahtab for protection of temples in US

Some miscreants allegedly sprayed black paint on the deity of Swaminarayan Temple at Louisville City in Kentucky of USA in January 2019

New Delhi: Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD) Friday urged the Union government to impress upon the United States of America to probe the attack on a Hindu temple in Kentucky there by miscreants.

Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Mahtab said, “A Hindu temple has been vandalised in the United States in the state of Kentucky by miscreants who sprayed black paint on the deity and wrote repugnant messages on the walls. This hate incident happened at the Swaminarayan Temple of Louisville City during the last week of January 2019. The incident sent shockwaves among the Indian-American community of Louisville Kentucky.”

Mahtab further said though the Mayor of Louisville has condemned this incident of vandalism, the authorities concerned are yet to investigate the incident.

He said the statement of the US authorities that there were no suspects in the incident and no video footage of the same was available has raised doubts about their integrity.

“I, therefore, urge upon the government to impress upon the USA government to intervene in the matter and punish the miscreants in order to prevent such hate crime incidents in the future,” he added.
