Cuttack: A major fire broke out in the wee hours of Friday at the regional office of Odisha Gramya Bank located at Mahanadi Vihar area under Chauliaganj police limits in Cuttack district.
According to an eyewitness, some local residents noticed that smoke was emanating from the building in which the bank was located. Later, they informed the fire brigade in the city to douse the flames.
Swinging into action, two fire tenders including a team of 15 personnel strived for over a couple of hours and got control over the inferno.

On being informed, a police team also rushed the mishap site.
However, properties including a number of furniture, computers, electrical fittings and important documents worth over lakhs of rupees kept inside two rooms of the bank were completely gutted by the time the fire was brought under control, the eyewitness added.
The extent of damage caused has not been estimated yet.
The exact cause behind the inferno has not been ascertained yet. Short circuit could be a probable reason behind the mishap, a fire official said.
A detailed probe into the incident is underway, the department official added.
