Cuttack: A major fire broke out Thursday morning in a farmhouse near a petrol pump at Bamphakuda under Sadar police limits in Cuttack district.
The inferno triggered panic among local residents and commuters.
According to an eyewitness, the fire was detected at a bushy area of the farmhouse. “As the petrol pump is located too close to the place where the fire broke out, anything could have happened if quick steps were not taken by the fire tenders,” a local resident said.

On the first outset, locals tried to douse the flames by sprinkling available sand and water. Later, a team of fire personnel reached the spot after being informed. Two fire tenders from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were engaged to bring the inferno under control.
The fire personnel had to strive hard for over an hour. Exact cause behind the fire mishap has not been ascertained yet.
On the other hand, the fire tenders reached the spot almost an hour after they were informed, some locals alleged. The fire could have been prevented from spreading had the vehicles reached earlier.
