Bargarh/Sohela: In a major breakthrough, a special squad of police has arrested 9 people who were allegedly involved in smuggling activities, from a hideout in the backyard of Rajasthani Dhaba in Luhurachati under Sohela Police Station in the district. The raid took place late Tuesday night, and the police seized an amount of Rs 2,54,440 in cash, 12 costly cars, and other equipment used in smuggling in Chhattisgarh.
As per the sources, the accused have been identified as Karim Khan from Baramkela, Bhupesh Kumar from Jalgarh, Yashpal Singh from Pithora, Mirza Ahmed from Chandmari, Prakash Kumar from Krishna Nagar, Kuljeet Singh from Bagar, Deepak Agarwal from Sariya Sonarpara in Chhattisgarh, Ahmed Ali from Nuapada’s Khariar road, and Dhalendra Sahu from Dumerpani. Apart from cash and vehicles, the police have also recovered three packs of playing cards, foreign liquor, and nine mobile phones from their possession. The accused have been produced before the court Wednesday.
According to the police, they had been keeping a close watch on the smuggling activities happening in the nearby area, and they will continue their vigilance in the future as well. Padampur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bibhuti Bhusan Bhoi said, “We are glad to have made this breakthrough in our fight against smuggling. Our police department will continue to be vigilant and take strict action against anyone involved in any illegal activity.”
