Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Rewards Committee Thursday announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for the police officials of Malkanagiri district for their successful detection and seizure of ganja being smuggled out of the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the rewards committee held under the chairmanship of Nikunja Bihari Dhal, principal secretary of state Excise department.
The committee in its press note stated that the reward (Rs 5, 13,000) was sanctioned as the police force of Malkanagiri seized 3536.095 kg of the contraband in six cases of interception. The committee also comprised the inspector general of police of the Crime Branch and superintended of police for the special task force (STF). The proposal was sent to the committee by the SP, STF for approval.
The cops of Orkel police station were awarded a sum of Rs 3,20,000 out the total sum of the reward amount. Orkel police station officials led by sub-divisional police officer of Chitrkonda area seized 1,469 kg of illegal ganja in case no-23/18 registered with the same police station.
Notably, the reward money, which is initially given by the state government, is disbursed by the Centre later.
