Malkangiri boy missing for 15 years back home

Malkangiri: The Malkangiri police have identified a youth who went missing 15 years ago, and handed him over to his relatives here in this district Monday night.

Hadi Dhangadamajhi, the elder son of Sukra Dhangadamajhi of Mudulipada village in Khairaput block of the district had gone missing when he was 12-year-old.

His parents tried to trace him then, but in vain. They had also filed a missing person’s complaint back then, but the police found no clues of his whereabouts.

Two days back, Hadi’s father had come to a friend’s house and decided to reopen his son’s missing case after 15 years.

Taking the case seriously, new IIC Soumendra Sekhar Tripathy circulated the photograph of Hadi to all police stations in the district. Later, police found that Hadi was working at a shop in Malkangiri and rescued him.

He was then rescued and handed over to his father and siblings – a sister and a brother. The happiness of the family knew no bounds when the police brought back the boy. While Hadi has now grown up to be a 27-year-old self-employed youth, things have not been same for the family.

Unable to bear his loss, his mother had committed suicide by hanging herself. Similarly, his elder sister also ended her life by consuming poison soon after her mother’s death. Since then, his father has been taking the responsibilities of the family.

During an investigation, it was learnt that Hadi had worked in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and many other small towns to eke out a living after he went missing. He had come to Malkangiri a few days back and was working in a shop.

Meanwhile, the Malkangiri police received accolades for their efforts to trace the missing youth.
