Malkangiri DHH starts ICU service

Malkangiri: Bringing cheer to the people of Malkangiri district, intensive care unit (ICU) service in the district headquarters hospital (DHH) started functioning Wednesday.

Although the DHH was shifted to its new building a year back and limited ICU facilities continued to be provided at the old building, full-fledged ICU service was inaugurated by CDMO Anil Kumar Mishra on the new building premises.

The new unit headed by senior medicine specialist Dr Krushna Chandra Mohapatra comprised six beds. “Now, the patients of Malkangiri district would not have to go to Visakhapatnam for critical care, Dr Mohapatra said.

Moreover, the dialysis service for kidney affected patients has also started on the DHH premises. However, there is need for more doctors and other staff in the hospital, he added.

With adequate number of doctors, the Malkangiri DHH could be able to cater to all healthcare needs of people of the region. Locals demanded, the state government give priority to appointment of doctors and other staff in the district.
