Malkangiri: Owing to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the district and in order to contain the spread of infection in the days ahead, Malkangiri Municipality announced complete shutdown for an indefinite period, within its limits Saturday.

The civic body has ordered for the closure of all other grocery and vegetable shops permitting only two to three vendors per each ward to sale grocery items and vegetables on an emergency basis, a report said.
Moreover, the municipal body has deployed one volunteer in each ward, for coordinating availability of essential commodities. Similarly, a teacher and an official each have been given charge of supervising the compliance of the order in respective wards.
The Municipality has also released the contact details of permitted grocery and vegetable vendors, including ward officials. In case of an emergency, residents can contact the officials concerned.
People have to walk down the distance for purchasing their required commodities, by wearing masks and maintaining social distance. The municipal authorities have appealed to the residents to strictly abide by COVID-19 guidelines.
