Malkangiri: Two woman Maoists leaders, in the most wanted list of Malkangiri police, Saturday surrendered before the nAndhra Pradesh police.
The two were identified as area committee members Shanti Madi and Sodi Lake of Andhra-Odisha border zonal committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).
Shanti alias Urmila of Charkiguda village in Niliguda panchayat under Padia police limits had been working in Kalimela Dalam for the last 13 years. She was influenced by Maoist ideology and joined their fold in 2005.
She was allegedly involved in the killing of 21 jawans and an RI Sharat Mishra by blasting an anti-land mine vehicle at Telarai in 2008, killing of a sarpanch of Uskalbag the same year and more than 50 other violent incidents.
Similarly, Sodi was involved in the killing of RSS member Pabitra Mohanty in MV-79 village, explosion in a police camp at Malavaram and several other killings and other violent activities.
They said the senior members of the committee used to keep them on the firing line in all offensives. This apart, the woman cadres were being tortured regularly.
They decided to shun violence and return to the mainstream of society as the top brass of the committee changed its ideology and manifesto, said the surrendered ultras.
The two surrendered before additional SP P Chakraborty in East Godavari district.
The two would be provided all benefits available under the rehabilitation policy of the state government.
