Police had taken Sahu him on a five-day remand for interrogation regarding the gruesome murder. Sahu narrated before the probe team as to how he disposed of the 24-year-old’s body after killing her.
“I brought Mamita’s body to the under-construction mini stadium in Mahaling around 8.30pm. I chopped off her body parts and set those on fire. I waited there for nearly 15 minutes while the body parts were burning. Later, I torched her handbag, mobile phone and other personal belongings of the girl,” Sahu said during the recreation of the crime scene.
Bolangir police had produced Sahu Wednesday before the JMFC court which allowed five-day remand if the accused.
It is pertinent to mention here that taking cognisance of the murder of Mamita, the OSCW has sought a detailed report from Bolangir SP Kusalkar. The state women’s rights body termed the murder as ‘shameful’. It has directed the SP to submit a detailed report within 15 days.
Sahu was re-arrested by Bolangir police October 19 after he had escaped from custody. Police found him hiding in a sugarcane field at Budhipadar village under Bangomunda block of Bolangir district. A team of Bolangir police investigating into the murder of Mamita then took Sahu to the crime site Friday where he had disposed the body.
