Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday submitted the investigation status report with Orissa High Court in the murder case of Mamita Meher, the lady teacher whose charred remains were recovered from a 10ft deep pit from the under-construction Mahaling Stadium in Kalahandi.

A source said that the report was submitted in response to High Court seeking investigation status November 18 from the government. The court had fixed December 3 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

It is pertinent to mention, deceased Mamita’s parents had moved the court November 17 seeking a time-bound and impartial probe.

In an earlier petition filed for the purpose, the parents had appealed the High Court to order Odisha government for a trial of the murder case in fast track. The Home Secretary, DGP of Odisha Police, Bolangir district Collector and Superintendent of Police and IIC of Sindhekela were made parties to the petition filed by Mamita’s parents.

The victim lady teacher had gone missing October 8. Buried remains of her charred body were recovered from a 10ft deep pit which was dug in the under-construction Mahaling stadium of Kalahandi.

On the other hand, pandemonium by Opposition parties over Mamita’s murder disrupted proceedings of Odisha Legislative Assembly on third-day of the Winter Session.

As the House assembled for the day at 10.30 AM, both Congress and BJP members created ruckus over the murder case demanding the resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra.

Unable to run today’s proceedings smoothly, the Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayana Patro had to adjourn the House till 4.00 PM.
