Man administered wrong injection, dies

Angul: Tension gripped residents of Balisahi village under Sadar police limits here in this district after a man died after being administered a wrong injection Monday. The deceased has been identified as Sibaram Pradhan of Balasingha Panchayat.

According to sources, Pradhan suffered from throat pain. He had gone to consult a doctor at a private clinic near the village.

It has been alleged that under the doctor’s prescription, Pradhan bought an injection from ‘Tarini Medical Store’ located at Angul Hata square. Then, the pharmacist at the store allegedly administered the prescribed injection to Pradhan.

However on his way back home after taking the injection, Pradhan became unhealthy and fell unconscious. Passers-by rescued him and called an ambulance following which he was taken to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH).

However, doctors declared him brought dead. This spread outrage among the kin and family members of Pradhan who staged a demonstration in front of the medical store.

Later, they filed a complaint with the police regarding administration of a wrong injection to Pradhan.

While cops have reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter, Pradhan’s post-mortem report was awaited.

We have sent the body for autopsy and the exact reason will be known after the report arrives. Necessary action will be taken as per the post-mortem report, police said.
