Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Tuesday arrested a web portal owner on charges of blackmailing a businessman after honey-trapping him with the help of his wife.
The accused has been identified as Anant Moharana of Kolahsingh under Barchana police station limits in Jajpur. He has been staying at Khandagiri Bari under Khandagiri police station here.
According to police sources, the victim, Nitesh Sharma, is a resident of Godabhaga village under Attabira police station in Bargarh. He is a businessman who has rice mills at Bargarh. He often comes to the Capital for business-related matters.
During one such visit, he came into contact with Moharana and soon they both became good friends. Later, Moharana and his wife allegedly hatched a plan to trap Sharma as he is a rich businessman.
Accordingly, his wife started having an illicit relationship with Sharma. Moharana installed a CCTV to capture the video and images of the intimate moments of his wife with Sharma at his residence.
Later, the couple threatened Sharma they would make viral the videos on internet through Moharana’s web portal News 9 and demanded Rs 5 lakh from him.
Sharma after coming to know that he was deliberately trapped by the couple, lodged a complaint with the Khandagiri police. Police after investigation found that the accused had no such video with him. Police registered a case (CS No. 328) under sections 384,385,506 120b of the IPC. The accused was sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court.
