Man arrested for impersonating Labour Minister to extort money

Bargarh: Sohela police in Bargarh district Thursday arrested a person for extorting money from government officers by impersonating Rural Development and Labour Minister Sushant Singh.

Superintendent of Police Padmini Sahu informed about the arrest at a press meet here.

She said that 24 years old Sushant Kumar Ranjit, a resident of Prabhashuni village in Deogarh district, had been living on extortion money. He had been collecting money from officers in some districts like Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada by introducing himself as the Labour Minister.

Quoting Ranjit, the SP said he had admitted to have collected Rs 3 to 4 lakh from various officers. On the basis of the complaint lodged by Ganatantra Pradhan, a Sohela resident, a case has been registered at Sohela police station. Police seized bank pass books, cheque books, mobile phones and some documents from his possession.
