Sambalpur/Rengali, Dec 23: Police Monday claimed to have solved the case of murder of a 65-year-old man, with the  arrest of his son. Ishwar Mirdha (30), son of Chhala Mirdha (65), was arrested on the charge of killing his father three days ago. The father-son duo hail from Pradhanpali under Rengali block of Sambalpur district. Chhala’s wife was also detained and is being interrogated, police said.

A case under section 302 of IPC has been registered and the accused would be produced in a court Tuesday, SDPO Utkalkeshari Dash said. Police reports said Chhala had received Rs six lakh a few days back by way of compensation for his land acquired by Aditya Alumina, an aluminum company. Of the amount, he gave `one lakh to Ishwar and Rs 8,000 each to his two daughters. The remaining amount was deposited in a bank. Meanwhile, Ishwar was putting pressure on his father to give him the deposited amount, but the latter refused.

This had led to an altercation between them. Failing to get the money, Ishwar made up his mind to kill his father. He hacked Chhala to death using a lathi Thursday and fled after abandoning his body near a bush on Pradhanpali-Gulamal road. Katarbaga police recovered the body from the site. Ishwar, however, lodged a complaint at the police station over the murder to mislead police.
