Sambalpur: Police Tuesday arrested a man on the charges of attacking a woman cop with a sharp-edged weapon and allegedly trying to kill her here in this district.
The incident was reported from Danipalli village under Ainthapali police limits in the district. The accused has been identified as Sapan Chakraborty while, the victim was identified as Rashmi Rekha, a constable at Sambalpur town police.
She was rescued in a critical condition and has been admitted to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) where her condition remained critical.
According to sources, Rashmi resided at the rented house of Chakraborty with her sister Giti Rekha at Kulatapada area in Sambalpur town.
The house owner broke out in a fight with the two sisters over some issue. In a fit of rage, he took a sharp-edged weapon from his house and attacked the two sisters, critically injuring them.
The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be known. However, the police have arrested the house owner following a complaint and started an inquiry.
