Man attempts suicide in Berhampur railway station

Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a man reportedly attempted suicide by publicly slitting his throat with a sharp blade over some unknown reason at Berhampur railway station here in Ganjam district Friday morning.

According to reports, the man is a native of Maharaj village in Aska block but was working as a daily wage labourer in Surat.

He arrived from Surat in a train in the morning after working there for over a year. He took a blade kept in his bag and slit his throat after his arrival on the platform.

Passers-by spotted him and immediately informed the station authorities, who called an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital on seeing a pool of blood.

The exact reason behind the unfortunate incident is yet to be ascertained but locals suspect that the extreme step was taken by the man over some family dispute.

The man claimed denied being in an inebriated state and is currently undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital.
