Sambalpur: A woman was left battling for life after her husband allegedly slit her throat over a family feud at Badatikra under Dhama police limits in Sambalpur district, police said Sunday.
Sagar Podha (24) slit the throat of Swapna Mahananda (19) with a sharp-edged weapon. Swapna was rushed to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) where her condition remained critical.
According to sources, Sagar had a love marriage with Swapna of Surta village. However, the marriage turned sour as Swapna was allegedly tortured by Sagar and his family.
Not able to endure the torture anymore, Swapna went back to her parental home a few days after the marriage.
In bid to bring her back, Sagar went to Swapna’s house Friday night. When she refused to come back, Sagar in a rage slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon. He fled from the spot soon after the incident.
Hearing Swapna’s screams neighbours rushed to her rescue. A police complaint was lodged against Sagar and a manhunt was on for him.
