Bhadrak: A man was beaten to death in Routaragadia Patna village under Bhadrak rural police limits in this district Thursday night for allegedly keeping sand on the village road.
The deceased, 40 years old Bijay Behera of Routaragadia Patna, had kept sand on the road for some construction work. However, some of the villagers had been opposing this.
According to a source, Thursday night, the villagers entered into a verbal spat with Bijay over the issue that quickly escalated to a scuffle. The villagers started beating him up with clubs and iron rods. The attack continued even after Bijay fell on the ground. The attackers left the spot only after the victim became unconsciousness.
Later, family members rushed Bijay to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH) at about 10:00pm where the doctors on duty declared him dead on arrival.
There has been a palpable tension in the village even as the police have launched an investigation on the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased’s relatives. However, no arrest has been made so far in this incident, it was learnt.
