Man beheads 8-yr-old girl, walks around in village with severed head

Sambalpur: In a barbaric incident, a man beheaded an eight-year-old girl with an axe early Friday and later walked around in the village with the severed head.

Worse, the 35-year-old accused, father of a child, spread a reign of terror in the village by showcasing as if he had done a daring job. Terrifying children and women, he roamed around with the severed head before he was overpowered, thrashed black and blue, and then handed over to the cops.

The horrendous incident has been reported from Kasada village under Jamankira police limits in Sambalpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Lusi, daughter of Nabakishore Dharua of the village. The youth was identified as 35-year-old Prashant Bagar from the same village. Prashant is married and lives along with his wife and a child.

“Motive of the killer has not been ascertained yet,” an official said.

“While her parents had gone to collect ‘Mahua’ flowers, Lusi had gone out of her house to a field to attend nature’s call early in the morning. All of a sudden, the accused came out of nowhere and attacked the girl with an axe beheading her on the spot,” a senior official in Jamankira police station stated.

Palpable tension mounted in the village following the incident and the residents are now in panicky. Jamankira police station IIC Premjit Das visited the crime spot and took stock of the situation.

“The accused has been arrested and will be interrogated soon,” the senior official said adding that a detailed probe is underway.
