Barang: The mutilated body of a 35-year-old man was found dumped near Barpali Adivasi slum in Chandaka police limits here Friday.
Chandaka police recovered the body of Niranjan Nayak, a resident of Kantabada Bhagabati Nagar here, and sent it for an autopsy. “On the basis of locals’ statements, we have detained Niranjan’s friend Balaram Nayak over his suspected indulgence in the murder. A probe is on to ascertain if some more persons are involved in the murder and the reason behind the crime,” a Chandaka police official said.
The incident came to the fore Friday morning when some locals spotted the Niranjan’s body lying in a pool of blood and informed the police.
Niranjan had a binge drinking party with five friends, including Balaram, near Godibari Derash Road Thursday night where the mishap happened, police said quoting locals.
Police added that they suspect Niranjan was bludgeoned to death over some trivial dispute between the five while boozing.
“Niranjan’s head bore multiple injuries. Besides, we found a few pieces of blood-stained bricks near the body. Substantial evidences hint at the fact that Niranjan was hit with bricks leading to his death at the spot,” a police official said.
