Padmapur: A man was bludgeoned to death with a lathi by his son-in-law over a family feud at Rajapada near here in Bargarh district. The deceased was Hadu Behera (53) while the accused has been identified as Gopal Patra (25).
A case of murder has been registered, based on a complaint by the accused’s wife and Patra was produced in a court Tuesday. He was remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea, investigating officer Soumya Ranjan Patra said.
According to reports, Patra married Hadu’s daughter Reema four months ago. Reema had an altercation with Patra and since then she had been residing with her family.
Things took an ugly turn when Hadu arrived at Patra’s house and confronted the latter.
In a fit of rage, Patra took a lathi and hit Hadu, critically injuring his head. Hadu was admitted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) where he succumbed to his injuries.
The body was handed over to family members after autopsy.
