Man carries father’s body on bike for 22 kilometers

Nabarangpur:  A man was forced to carry the body of his father on a motor-cycle for 22 kilometres as the hearse he had requested for failed to turn up.

Although the incident happened Sunday, people came to know about the incident when the post-mortem of the deceased was performed at the Umerkote Community Health Centre (UCHH) near here.

According to sources, Lucky Santa had taken his ailing father Bali Santa to a relative’s house at Banshibindha village under Jharigaon block to get him treated by a traditional healer. However, his condition deteriorated and Bali breathed his last while his son was waiting for an ambulance.

Lucky tried to get the services of a hearse but the ambulance failed him. So, he tied his father’s body to a wooden plank and with the help of a relative he drove towards Kudumdhara village under Raighar block in this district.

Midway, at Gopabandhu Square, some locals noticed Lucky carrying his father on a bike. They then advised lucky to take his deceased father’s body to Umerkote CHC.
