Digapahandi: A man clubbed his elder brother to death over some family dispute at Padmapur village near Patpur in Ganjam district Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Nath Mallick.
According to reports, when Chittrasen, son of the deceased, went to the backyard for planting saplings, he saw his paternal uncle Uday Mallick uprooting and throwing away some spine gourd (locally known as ‘Kankada’) plants.
When Chittrasen opposed the act, Uday hurled abuses and both were engaged in a verbal duel. In a fit of rage, Uday hit his nephew with a lathi.
Meanwhile, Nath intervened and tried to calm Uday down. But Uday held Nath by his neck.
Nath’s son-in-law also intervened and tried to rescue the former. However, Uday’s wife Tulasi and son Rabi attacked Nath with lathi and a piece of stone.
Later Nath was rushed to Digapahandi community health center but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
