Jajpur: A man committed suicide after attacking his daughter-in-law with a sharp weapon at Baruneipada village near Panikoili in Jajpur district Saturday evening.
The woman, undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, has been identified as Sakuntala (27), daughter-in-law of 48-year-old Damodar Behera.
According to reports, Damodar and his daughter-in-law had an altercation Saturday afternoon over some family issues. Losing his cool, Damodar attacked her with a sharp weapon.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed her to the district hospital in a critical condition. Later, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Later Damodar’s body was found hanging from a tree near the village. However, he has not left any suicide note.
The exact reason for the attack is not yet known, police sources said. However, they said that fearing arrest by the police, Damodar had taken the drastic step to end his life.
