Athmallik: All arrangements were made. Both brother and sister were supposed to get married on the same day. Everyone was busy in the preparations for the big day. Little did anybody know that a shock was waiting for them?
A man has left his family and friends heartbroken after he allegedly committed suicide just minutes before his wedding. The bizarre incident has been reported from Gopalpur village under Athamallik police limits in Angul district.
According to sources, Ranjit Karna (28) was supposed to marry a girl from Pitambharpur village under Purunakot police limits in Boudh district. Similarly, his sister was to get married to the Ranjit’s brother-in-law.
All arrangements were made and the groom party was to set off 8AM in the morning. The grom vehicle, decorated with flowers was standing before the house, all relatives were ready to set off in a separate vehicle to the bride’s village for the marriage.
However, before the marriage procession, Ranjit left on the pretext of going to the village pond. Family members grew suspicious when he did not show up and went to search him only to find him hanging from a tree near the pond.
Shocked, they informed other relatives who then informed the police.
On receipt of information, Athmallik ASI Sanatan Dhar with a police team reached the village and recovered the body. A case of unnatural death was registered and the body was sent for autopsy.
Till now, the whole village is in shock as to why Ranjit took the extreme step.
“He was busy since a couple of days and did all the arrangements himself. Everything was going on fine, until the marriage procession. We still cannot believe he has committed suicide,” villagers said.
After autopsy, Ranjit’s body was handed over to family members who performed the last rites. On the other hand, Ranjit’s sister was married off in a small ceremony in a temple after the final rites. However, the joy and rejoice of marriage faded away after the bizarre incident.
A pall of gloom descended on the village as sounds of woman and children crying engulfed the village. The incident has become the talk of the town.
