Parjang: A person was critically injured after a wild elephant attacked him at Gailo village under Dihadola forest section of Mahabirod range in Dhenkanal Forest Division Saturday morning.
The injured person has been identified as Duryodhan Sahoo (50).
According to reports, three persons have sustained injuries in separate elephant attacks in Dhenkanal district this week.
A wild pachyderm came from behind and attacked Duryodhan when he had gone to attend nature’s call in the morning.
The elephant pushed him with its trunk following which Duryodhan fell down. However, he had a close shave when locals who were present there shouted aloud and drove the animal away.
He was rescued by family members and admitted to Parjang community health centre but was shifted later to Kamakhyanagar hospital.
He sustained grievous injuries on his waist.
On receipt of information, Dihadola forester Biswanath Soren and forest guard Prahallad Pradhan reached the spot and started an investigation.
They also assured to bear the medical expenses of Duryodhan.
Notably, Saibani Pradhan of Kandarsingha village and Pankaj Nayak of Damol village sustained critical injuries in separate incidents of elephant attacks January 8 and 9 respectively.
Similarly, Arbind Biswal of Mendhapada village fell from his bike and injured himself after an elephant chased him January 11.
