Kamakhyanagar: A man sustained critical injuries after he was mauled by a wild bear in Khatakhura village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district Saturday.
The victim was identified as Biranchi Patra (40) of the same village.
Biranchi had gone to visit his farmland located near the village when the animal attacked him. A few minutes after leaving his home early in the morning, Biranchi came across a wild bear which had sneaked into the village from a nearby forest. The animal pounced on him and mauled him brutally before running back into the forest.
The victim, who sustained critical injuries in the attack, was later rescued unconscious from the spot and admitted to Kamakhyanagar community health centre (CHC) for treatment.
The victim’s condition is stated to be critical.
