Man, daughter attacked over property row

Bhubaneswar: Miscreants Monday attacked an elderly man and his daughter near Baramunda bus stand while they were returning to their Phuleswara residence in Patrapada.

The victim, Sibaram Bhola, a daily wager lodged a complaint in this regard at Khandagiri police station Tuesday.

Bhola and his daughter Sanjukta Barati have been residing in Phuleswari slum along with their family. Bhola’s family had gone to Berhampur in Ganjam district after the cyclonic storm Fani ravaged the city.

According to the complaint, Bhola and his daughter were on their way home Monday when some of his relatives with whom Bhola had some property dispute intercepted them. The accused are alleged to have attacked the two with sharp weapons injuring them severely. Bhola broke his right leg in the attack while Sanjukta sustained grave injuries in her face. They also tried to sexually abuse Sanjukta but the arrival of police PCR van at the nick of time saved her from further trouble.

Police have raided several houses including those of the accused, but none has been arrested so far.
