Phulnakhara: A 30-year-old man died while another sustained critical injuries after a container vehicle in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck from the rear close to Bamphakuda on National Highway 16 here late Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, the mishap occurred when the prawn ferrying container rammed the sand-laden truck.
“The impact of the collision was so intense that the container’s helper Bijay Ram Giri died on the spot while manager Ajay Kumar Giri sustained critical injuries. Both are residents of Sanakrushnapur village in Naikanidihi police limits of Bhadrak,” Cuttack Sadar assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Madan Mohan Mallik said.
On being informed, a team of Sadar police arrived at the spot and rushed a profusely bleeding Ajay to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack.
“A case (245/18) has been registered and Bijay’s body has been sent to SCBMCH for autopsy,” Mallik said, adding that they have seized the mangled container and detained its driver Pradip Das for interrogation.
