Banki: A man died and his father sustained serious injuries in an accident at an ice cream factory at Charchika Sahi here in Cuttack district Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Smrutiranjan Subuddhi (25) from Thanapalli village under Begunia police limits of Khurda district. His father Sushant Subuddhi (51), who sustained severe burn injuries, is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
According to a source, the father-son duo had come to the ice factory to repair the compressor. While they were trying to release the gas from the compressor, the cylinder somehow exploded resulting in Sushant’s death on the spot.
On being informed, fire personnel reached the spot and rushed them to Banki government hospital where the doctors declared Smrutiranjan dead. A critically injured Sushant was referred to SCBMCH.
The incident has left the villagers terrified. They requested the administrative officers to shift the ice cream factory from the middle of the village to somewhere else.
