Nimapara: In a tragic mishap, a man was killed and his son sustained critical injuries Thursday when the bike they were riding was hit by a truck at Kanarpur College Square on Khelar-Balanga road in Puri district Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Kailash Biswal, 55, and his son Brahmananda Biswal.
According to a source, Kailash and Brahmananda were going towards Puri on their bike. When they reached the Kanarpur College Square, a truck hit the bike from the rear, flinging both on to the hard asphalt. Kailash died on the spot.
Balanga police personnel reached the accident spot and rushed the duo to Pipili Government Hospital where the doctors declared Kailash brought dead.
Soon after the accident, angry people staged a blockade at Khelar Square, demanding compensation to the bereaved family. The road block started at around 9.30am. It was called off at 11.00am after Nimapara tehsildar Kamaljit Das, revenue inspector Priyambada Pradhan and sub- divisional police officer Sarat Mishra reached the spot and pacified the crowd. They said compensation will be paid to distressed family. An amount of Rs 10, 000 was also released from the Red Cross fund.
