Nuapada: A patient, who had just been released from a private hospital died in the wee hours of Tuesday after the ambulance he was travelling in crashed against a divider in Boden block of Nuapada district. Three others travelling in the same vehicle suffered serious injuries in the accident.
The deceased was identified as Janak Manahira of Dharanimala village in Boden block. He was returning in the ambulance along with two others after treatment at a hospital.
Police officials said Janak was returning to his village after being discharged from a private hospital in Raipur. However, fate had conspired otherwise as the ambulance crashed against the divider after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The accident took place at Bireskela within Boden police limits.
While Janak died at the spot, the three others including the driver were critically injured. Locals rushed them to the community health centre at Boden where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Police reached the spot and started an investigation as to how the accident occurred. Locals said that ambulance was travelling at a high speed and in the dense fog the driver could not see the divider and crashed into it.
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. Police said that once the report arrives, the body of the victim will be handed over to the family members for the last rites.
