Phulbani: Police Friday recovered the body of a man from Salunki River near Damigaon village under Phiringia police limits in Kandhamal district.
The deceased has been identified as Rajiv Lochan Behera of Bilupadar village of Nuapadar panchayat under Firingia police limits. He had married in Damigaon and was working as a painter in the village.
Prima facie, police suspected it to be murder as the body bore injuries on his face and genital was found chopped off. “The post-mortem repot will throw more light on the cause of the death,” said Phiringia IIC Bidyabharati Nayak.
According to the wife of the deceased, Rajiv had told her to come to Dami village Thursday, however, she had asked him not to since it late at night. However, the next morning her uncle saw his body floating in water.
The deceased’s brother Prakash Behera lodged a police complaint alleging his brother has been murdered.
On the basis of his complaint, police registered a case (Case No. 124/19) and have started an investigation.
