Athgarh: A local court Monday awarded one and a half-year jail term to a man after convicting him of bid to murder a fellow villager.
The convict, Bigna Dehury, a resident of Dudhiabereni under Badamba police limits in Cuttack district, was sentenced to undergo the jail-term for the attack on fellow villager Basant Behera.
According to the case diary, the incident occurred April 7, 2017. A previous enmity prevailed between the two villagers over some land dispute.
In an act of revenge, Bigna attacked Behera with an iron rod while the latter was on his way to take bath in a pond. Family members admitted him to a local hospital.
A case was filed by Behera following which police had arrested Bigna. Since then, he was in the jail as an under-trial.
Additional district and sessions judge Amrut Ranjan Nanda Monday awarded the jail-term and imposed a penalty of Rs 500 on him. He would undergo an additional three-month jail-term, if he fails to pay the fine, the court ruled.
