Man gets 10-year RI for raping minor

Cuttack: A local court here has sentenced a man to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for ten years on charges of outraging the modesty of a minor girl in 2013.

Apart from RI, additional district and sessions judge (III) Bandana Kar Monday slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict – Tuku Nayak – for sexually exploiting a minor girl of Narsinghpur block near here. The convict would undergo an additional six-month’s RI in case of non-payment of the penalty, the court ruled.

Besides, the court has awarded a five-year RI to the convict and slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 on him under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code. In case of failure on the part of Tuku to pay the fine, he would have to undergo an additional three-month’s RI, the court said, adding both the convictions would run concurrently.

According to the case details, the convict’s friend Sujan Nayak had lured the minor into entering into a mango grove February 9, 2013. Later, Tuku whisked the minor to an abandoned structure nearby where he allegedly confined her and sexually exploited her for three days.

The victim, however, managed to flee the confinement and narrated the ordeal before her parents who approached the police.

Although police arrested Tuku after registering a case, it was yet to find whereabouts of Sujan who is on the run since then.

The court convicted Tuku after taking into account the statements of around 17 witnesses.
